How To Stop Sweaty Feet
Do you desperately need to stop sweaty feet symptoms? Since you are usually wearing shoes, your feet cannot evaporate naturally. This sweat becomes smelly quite quickly because bacteria produces fatty acids. Generally, the main causes of sweaty feet are derived from wearing incorrect socks or shoes. Synthetic socks and shoes with synthetic or plastic linings do not allow sweat to evaporate or be absorbed.
Evaluate Your Feet
- To stop sweaty feet, you need to check your feet for hard skin that is dead. This hard skin becomes quite soggy when it is damp which provides bacteria with an ideal environment to grow. If you have hard skin, you should scrub it with a pumice stone.
- Give your feet a bath in warm, tea-tree oil water. When tea-tree oil is added to water, it offers your feet antibacterial properties. Be sure to completely dry your feet after bathing.
- Wipe your feet with a surgical spirit everyday. Discontinue use if this irritates your skin in any way.
- Examine between your toes for athlete's foot or any other fungal infections. If fungi is present, the skin will look soggy and red between your toes. If this is the case, buy some type of anti-fungal foot spray and spray your feet for an additional 10 days even after symptoms are gone.
-
If the soles of your feet have small pits that look like a honeycomb and smell, you might have pitted keratolysis, an infection that leaves the feet white and slimy. This is common with soldiers that wear boots in very humid conditions. This will not go away on its own. You need to see a doctor for antibiotics.
- You may also want to try a foot antiperspirant or a solution that is 20 percent aluminum chloride to stop sweaty feet. Use at night after you wash and thoroughly dry your feet. Apply the lotion before you go to sleep, allowing it to air dry and pay special attention to coat the area between the toes. Do this every night until you have control of the problem and then reduce use to twice a week.
Evaluation Your Socks
- To stop sweaty feet, you need to get rid of any nylon socks that you have and replace them with ones that are around 65 percent wool. Contrary to what you may believe, cotton socks are not good because they do not hold very much moisture until they become sodden and pure wool socks will make your feet clammy. You may also want to try bamboo fiber socks that are designed to wick away moisture.
- You must wear clean socks daily. They should also be washed on the very hottest cycle and then rinsed in diluted antiseptic and left to air dry.
- Antibacterial socks may be an option to consider as well. Chemicals are impregnated on these socks to discourage odor producing bacteria that normally feeds on sweat. While some people swear by these socks to stop sweaty feet, certain scientists feel that long-term use could encourage the development of stronger strains.
Evaluate Your Shoes
- Go through all of your shoes and check the linings, even many leather shoes have a plastic lining that could be making your feet sweat.
- Buy a few pair of washable insoles to put in all of your shoes and be sure to wash them frequently.
- Every few weeks you should use the hose of your vacuum cleaner to vacuum the inside of any shoes that you have worn. Doing this removes old, dried sweat. Additionally, you can also wipe out the inner portions of your shoes using surgical spirit that you can purchase at the pharmacy.
- Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes everyday. They need time to dry out properly.
